2015.
The anticipation is finally over, the Grand Theft Auto 5 PC version has finally arrived and now it’s up to us, the users, to modify GTA 5 into a craze utopia that we all waited for. Let’s be honest, the long-awaited release was nothing more than an intelligent ploy to create hype for an old game. However, despite the marketing scheme it’s hard to deny my excitement for this PC release, but after hearing the news months ago, I kept asking myself will GTA 5 translate well to the PC or is it going to be filled with bugs while we wait for updates and mods?
Don’t you remember the fiasco that happened with the online servers on the initial release for the consoles, all those bugs and massive waves of users clogging the servers which created a mess.
Well, I’m glad to say after playing online, the re-release for the PC is a much better version than the original, with less bugs and more stabled servers. Now hold your horses. There are still some issues GTA possess that tickle me, like the fact Rockstar is slowly transforming into a money grabbing corporate machine like there predecessors. Any online GTA player will tell you to have any real fun in the game you need to spend your actual real-world money.
It’s hard to enjoy the online experience when the 6-year-old kid keeps gunning you down with his unlimited RPG ammo because he was able to steal his mothers credit card. I paid around $60 when GTA first released to the consoles and then paid another $60 for PC version, but now they want me to spend even more so I can buy stuff in the game? Sort of beats the whole purpose of a “paid” game. Unfortunately, Rockstar is slowly becoming a parody of itself. I once thought Rockstar was going to be one of those gaming companies that will stand strong while other companies *cough* EA *cough* sells their artistic soul for some extra bucks, God was I wrong.
Again, I’m not a fool, I understand the real reason why we all bought the PC version, mods. The endless amount of content that will be produced within the coming years will make the game priceless but if we don’t address these issues it’s going to motivate Rockstar to continuously push their money grabbing agenda. GTA 6 will probably be released 50 years from now since Rockstar will keep banking on re-releases and online currencies being thrown at them. I love the story mode and I give hats off to them for finally adding the first-person mode which makes the game so much more immersive. This review was difficult for me because of the exploitation but at the end of day I have an iPhone created by a sweatshop worker; I’m not going to act too all mighty. GTA 5 Online gets 3 out of 5 stars. The story mode gets 5 out of 5 and the mods (when they come out) probably will all get a 5 out of 5.
